Tambaba Beach to host 7th Naturist Surf Open

September 3, 2014

This Saturday and Sunday, Sept. 6-7, the 7th edition of the 'Tambaba Naturist Surf Open' takes place at Tambaba Beach in the town of Conde, on the southern coast of the state of Paraíba, Brazil. The competition, which has the support of the state government, was conceived by Movimento NU (Naturists United Movement), with the purpose of using sports to spread the naturist philosophy of freedom, harmony and respect for nature. The Open was created during the 31st International Congress of Naturism.

According to event general coordinator Carlos Santiago, the peculiar characteristics of the 'Tambaba Naturist Surf Open' make it the world's biggest naturist surfing championship. "It's done on a naturist beach, it's on the surfing federation's official circuit and has been held for seven years straight," he said. The organizers expect more than 40 athletes from around the country to participate in this year's competition. Carlos Santiago warns that there is the possibility of a women's competition and that this year participants will defend the preservation of Tambaba/Grajaú. "The place is a true ecological sanctuary, where fauna and flora are threatened by real estate speculation," he said.

It's possible to sign up on tournament days from 9 AM to noon at the event office set up on Tambaba Beach. The registration fee is R$ 35 (US$ 16) per category, except for the 'expression session' category, included with entry to any other competition category.

In addition to the Open heats, will be parallel cultural events at local inn Arca do Bilu. The cultural events will be the responsibility of Scobá Dub, Dumatu, Camila Rocha, Dj Mauros and Geração Rasta Band

The 7th Tambaba Naturist Surf Open is a joint undertaking by stage agency Paraíba Tourism Company (PBTur), which is promoting the event in all the country's media outlets and the City of Conde, with the support of the International Naturist Federation (INF) and Brazilian Naturism (FBrN), Naturist Society of Tambaba (Sonata), Paraibana Surfing Federation (PBSurf), Paraibana Surfing Referees Association (ASPA); Commercial, Industrial and Services Association of Conde (ACIC); Costa de Conde Tourism Association (ATCC), WM Pranchas, Nordeste Independente, Plume Comunicação Visual, Tambaba Camping and Arca do Bilú Inn and Restaurant.

Sometimes friends say they’ll tag along, but won’t run or take off their clothes. That usually doesn’t last.

“By the time it’s time to run,” Simonson says, “we’ve never had anyone not participate — or, more importantly, not enjoy it.” (Ticket Sarasota)

Ainda mais, não é um oportunidade de lucro, mas de marketing:

At a time when race entry fees have escalated rapidly in the endurance sports world, with some events now charging for parking and offering little in terms of free refreshments, the Caliente Bare Dare 5K might be the best value in the industry. The race entry fee also grants runners admission to Caliente for the day, along with post-race refreshments poolside, awards to the top 25 male and top 25 female finishers, and soft, fitted T-shirts uncluttered with sponsor logos on the back.

Praia do Pinho beach, in the city of Balneário Camboriú near Florianópolis, will on January 12 host the south of Brazil's first naturist surfing championship. Baptized "Surf nu Pinho", the event will start at 10:00 AM and is open to the public. The event has been announced in the local press, including the state's leading paper, the Diário Catarinense  and on the leading television network, which claims 20 competitors and 2,000 spectators are expected.

Praia do Pinho is Brazil's first naturist beach. The practice is conducted according to a rigid code of etiquette. Located six miles from the city center, surrounded by cliffs, the beach has a camping area, an inn, bar and restaurant. The beach is just over a thousand feet long.

Organized by the Association of Friends of Praia do Pinho (AAPP) and the Praia do Pinho Tourist Complex, the event is part of the commemoration of 25 years of the Brazilian Federation of Naturism (FbrN), running from January 11 to 13. Anilton Bitencourt, administrator of the Praia do Pinho Tourist Complex emphasized the which to strengthen naturism and spread its philosophy:

“We want to show that naturism can be practiced in other ways, as through sport, for example. ”

There will be a space facing the beach reserved for the public that prefers to remain clothed. For the sand, though, the rule is to be nude. For those interested in surfing, competitors don't have to be naturists, but they must remove their clothes. It's possible to sign up until the 12th at 9:30 AM, a half hour before the tournament begins, on in advance by phone and email. .

Signup and registration for the event can be done by the AAPP, at phones +55 (47) 3319-3136 or 8444-7035, from 9 AM to 6PM (6:00 AM to 3:00 PM U.S. Eastern time), from Monday to Friday.   E-mail: praiadopinho@praiadopinho.com.br

At Tambaba beach in northeast Brazil, the Tambaba Naturist Surf Open celebrated its fifth edition in September 2012. The Tambaba surf championship is organized by United Naturists (NU), has the support of the official Paraibana Tourism Company (PBTUR), and is accredited by Paraíba state surfing federation.

While the Ministry of Justice last year issued new rules letting broadcasters air simple non-sexual nudity at any time of day, the coverage of the Tambaba Naturist Surf Open featured careful editing or blurry patches. We'll see this weekend if Santa Catarina's press is more daring than Paraíba's

Foreign visitors to Praia do Pinho should be warned against purchasing a cabin at the AAPP. The courts have ruled the AAPP must vacate the area it occupies above the beach, although bailiffs have not yet served the order. Other naturist developments in Brazil present similar hazards for the unwary.

Tambaba beach holds nude surf competition

The fifth Tambaba Naturist Surf Open was held this weekend, attracting new people to naturism, and mainstream jornalism to the beach. We've translated an article from Globo Esporte, the sports news of the country's dominant TV network.

A TV clip from SBT,  perennial second-place broadcaster, can be found here (there may be an ad before the video starts). Although as we recently published, Brazilian TV censorship rules now consider non-sexual nudity to be proper for all ages, the network chose to blur the competitors' "naughty bits". Globo just picked photos taken from an angle that revealed only the surfing.

For our Brazilian naturist readers, SBT has another offereing of interest: "A Brazilian is victim of fraud every 16 seconds."

Over 40 'nudies' vie in Tambaba Naturist Surf Open

Seeking freedom and a tie to nature, surfers gather at the Tambaba nudist beach to compete in a naked surfing event

By Larissa Keren  in João Pessoa
Seeking freedom and a tie to nature, over 40 "confirmed nudies" gathered at Tambaba Beach, Paraiba, to attend the 5th Tambaba Naturist Surf Open, held this weekend. At the event, which by the way is beyond unusual, the athletes competed in the competition's three classifications using only a colored shirt so that the judges could identify them from the beach..

The tournament featured competition in the categories Local for local beach goers, Open with no age limits, and the Expression Session, for surfers who like to innovate on the board.

his teens (Photo: Larissa Keren / Globoesporte.com)

For surfer Edson Filho, who had practiced the 'modality' since his teens and competed in the Local category, the main difference between nude and normal surfing is the sense of freedom that comes when the athlete has no clothes.
"The connection to nature is extreme. You feel freer and that's great. Early on, surf wax bothers a little, because it abrades the skin and causes rashes in some cases. But after you get used to surfing naked it is one of the best things in life," said Edson Filho, who also has played some editions of Paraibano Surfing Championship.

Another who prefers the naturist modality is Reginaldo Filho, age 9. The little athlete, participating in the event for the second time, was taken by his father to Tambaba beach and fell in love with the sport.

"I was embarrassed to undress the first time my father brought me. But now it's epic. You get less constrained, so I'd rather surf without clothes," said Reginaldo, who qualified for the semifinals of the Local category.

The first edition of the Tambaba Open was held in 2008, during an international naturism congress, which occurred on the Paraíba beach. According to the competition's coordinator, Carlos Santiago, the tournament was so successful that the Brazilian Confederation of Naturism has plans to promote the Brazilian Championship of Nude Surfing.
"There are naturist surfing exhibitions around the world. However, only here in Tambaba is there a competition that is conducted along the lines of the official World Surfing Federation. Our event was so successful that the Confederation wants to organize a Brazilian Championship, involving the other nude beaches of Brazil. As we are accustomed to innovate, we of the Paraíba Naturist Federation will be organizing surfing classes here at Tambaba surfing in the summer," said Carlos Santiago.

Tambaba to host 5th Naturist Surf Open in September

08.23.2012 | 11:22

Surfers and bodyboarders will enjoy the 5th Tambaba Naturist Surf Open on September 15th and 16th, on the beach of Tambaba, located in the municipality of Conde, on the south coast of the Brazilian state of Paraíba. The event is being organized by United Naturists (NU) and has the support of official Paraibana Tourism Company (PBTUR), responsible for the publicity in the country's media.

The 5th Edition of Tambaba Naturist Surf Open will celebrate five years of Project SurfNU, with the goal of spreading naturism through surfing. The event also aims to bring together and stimulate the development of naturist sports and to encourage young people's participation. Organizers say the event seeks to awaken environmental awareness in the population and to consolidate naturism as a philosophical movement that seeks life within nature.

"This sport is a good representation of the naturist spirit - freedom, interaction and respect for nature," explains SurfNU Project Coordinator Carlos Santiago. According to him, the project is the only one of its kind in the world, and will be presented by the Brazilian delegation at the 33rd International Naturist Congress to be held in Croatia, on the same dates as the 5th Tambaba Naturist Surf Open.

Competition - Three categories will be disputed during the championship: Local (no age limit, for residents or Tambaba beach regulars, duly classified by the Local Accreditation Commission); Open (open category with no age restriction); and higher degree of difficulty (Expression Session) - open category with no age restriction.

Registration - Those interested may register on September 15 and 16, from 9 AM to noon, with the tournament secretary on Tambaba Beach. "A registration fee of R$ 30.00 (US$ 15) will be charged for each category except the Expression Session, which is free with registration for one of the other categories," said Carlos Santiago.

Prizes - According to the organization of the 5th Tambaba Naturist Surf Open, there will be prizes for top four in the Local and Open categories. The first place winner will receive a surfboard, trophy and keepsake, while the others will be awarded trophies and keepsakes. In the Expression Session category only the most difficult manoever will be awarded surfboard, trophy and keepsake.
